Monday quote

‘People who communicate through writing, through editing, through curation, trough critical understanding and through design are as much an Architect as somebody who sits by the desk drawing door schedules and toilets. On some level, these activities are very different but they are all worthy of the title Architect.’

James Taylor-Foster, 2016

(This is a quote from an interview I conducted with James Taylor-Foster earlier this year. As of today, I am officially unemployed and contemplating my future options. What I want most is to be an Architect who writes. Wish me luck.)

Monday quote

‘If narrative tells a story in time, architecture builds a story in space. In both cases, something is constructed, whether in the physical or the mental space, and that something becomes inhabited with memories and experiences.’

Blank Space, 2016

(Working on my entry to the 2017 Fairytales competition, I find motivation and inspiration in these words by its organizers.)

Monday quote

‘Not only is the city an object which is perceived (and perhaps enjoyed) by millions of people of widely diverse class and character, but it is the product of many builders who are consonantly modifying the structure for reasons of their own… No wonder, then, that the art of shaping cities is an art quite separate from architecture or music or literature.’

Kevin Lynch, The Image of the City, 1960

(I am currently working on a panel for a walkable cities exhibition so I am looking for inspiration in some of my favorite books on urbanism)
